The Kansas City Chiefs return home Sunday to kick off a three-game stretch at Arrowhead Stadium and will start off as heavy favorites over the Oakland Raiders.
Following a two-win season that found the Chiefs underdogs week in and week out, they have now been favored in five of their first six games. Last week Kansas City traveled to take on the Tennessee Titans and, thanks to an injury to Jake Locker, found themselves favored by 4.5 points.
Now as Andy Reid’s squad prepares for an extended stay at Arrowhead, they are favored by nine points over the 2-3 Raiders. There’s a bit of a range depending on the outlet with some books going as high as 10 points and other coming down as low as 8.5.
History clearly didn’t play into the formula for oddsmakers. The Chiefs haven’t beaten the Raiders at Arrowhead since downing them 17-13 back in November of 2006. That’s six straight wins in Kansas City for the hated Silver and Black.
Obviously Arrowhead has rediscovered some of it’s lost magic this season, but the Raiders come in as a team that seem to have found their leader in QB Terrelle Pryor. He led Oakland past the San Diego Chargers last week and comes into Sunday’s action as the Raiders leading rusher.
If the line doesn’t go down as the week goes on, I wouldn’t feel great about giving the Raiders anything more than eight points. I think the Chiefs will win, but this is an Oakland team that went into Indianapolis and nearly took out the Colts and now is riding high after a crisp win over the Chargers.
