Larry Johnson is participating in Todd Haley’s first mini-camp with the Chiefs, but Brian Waters and Tony Gonzalez are not, according to Kent Babb at the KC Star.
LJ worked with the first-team offense while Wade Smith filled in for Waters and Brad Cottam for Gonzalez. Waters has reportedly asked to be traded or released earlier in the off season after a bad first impression with the new administration. Gonzalez has not said he wants to stay or go and has missed verteran mini-camps in the past.
It’s good to see Larry Johnson is so far living up to the statements by his agent that he wants to be a Kansas City Chief. I really thought he would be out as soon as his grievance was heard and until training camp starts with him still in a Chiefs uniform I won’t be completely sold. Waters apparently is still acting like a child, sitting at home waiting to be traded or released. It would be easy to point to Gonzalez missing mini-camps in the past to explain his absence but he — and everyone else on the roster — should be there.
