Free agent Peyton Manning is expected to pick his new team in the next week. Virtually every team that doesn’t have a QB named “Brady” or “Rodgers” is said to be interested, but it’s Mike Florio of PFT that is going all in on Manning-to-Kansas City.
He put out Manning Power Rankings and though the defending AFC South champion Houston Texans are first, it’s the Chiefs right behind them.
2. Chiefs: Last year, despite the torn ACLs and fractured relationship between coach and G.M., the Chiefs nearly won the AFC West. With Peyton, they’d win it going away. And they possibly would pump up their record to the point where the road to New Orleans would wind through Kansas City.
There’s no doubt bringing Manning to Kansas City would be a huge boost to the franchise, but immediately one of the favorites for the Super Bowl is bold.
The presence of Matt Shaub in Houston presents a hurdle that doesn’t exist with the Chiefs. Matt Cassel is good guy, but there won’t be any sort of locker room unrest if Scott Pioli can convince Clark Hunt to pony up for Manning.
