When it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback situation, the most likely scenario entering the 2012 season will include a competition between Matt Cassel and Kyle Orton or some other less than exciting veteran option.
There are two very sexy names out there — Peyton Manning and Robert Griffin III — with the potential to turn the franchise on its side. Most assume the Chiefs odds at getting either are on the longer side.
Don’t count SI’s Peter King among that group. He handicaps the Chiefs as the fifth most likely landing spot for the Baylor QB, along with the Philadelphia Eagles.
5. (tie) Philadelphia and Kansas City, 25-1. Never eliminate Andy Reid in the quest for a quarterback. He loved RG3 when they met at the combine, as did Chiefs GM Scott Pioli. If Pioli has some Thomas Dimitroff riverboat gambler in him, he just might risk it all to go get Griffin.
A lot of fans seem more than willing to give up (at least) two first round picks along with second and fourth rounders. Scott Pioli’s track record would tell you he isn’t willing to give up that much, but seeing these odds could give some fans a bit of hope.
