There were grumblings in the spring the Kansas City Chiefs had reached out to Ryan Lilja about coming out of retirement. While nothing came out of those reported talks, now there’s word the Denver Broncos are looking to get the center back into a jersey.
Lilja spent most of his career blocking for Broncos QB Peyton Manning, who is in desperate need at center after the season-ending knee injury to Dan Koppen. FOX Sports reports Lilja is contemplating the offer from Manning and the Broncos.
When we first heard the Chiefs were interested back in April, it seemed the team might be worried about the recovery of Rodney Hudson. After all, it was Hudson’s injury that pushed Lilja over to center in the first place. But with Hudson on the field and seemingly 100%, it’s no surprise there wasn’t a match for Lilja in Kansas City.
If he still has anything left in the tank, Lilja would be a great addition for the Broncos, giving them an offensive lineman that will be as comfortable with Manning’s non-stop changes at the line as anyone else on their roster.
