Last week the Chiefs practiced for most of the week without the services of both Dexter McCluster and Ryan Lilja before playing without them against the Bills. On the first day of practice in preparation for the Oakland Raiders, Kent Babb brings word that one of the two is back on track to play Sunday.
Chiefs WR Dexter McCluster (ankle) wasn’t practicing today, again out there but just standing around for the second consecutive week.
Right guard Ryan Lilja (hand) was back working with the first-team offensive line.
The early word on McCluster was that he would miss “multiple” games, so any snaps the rookie gets in before next week’s game would be a bonus. Playing with a high ankle sprain is difficult for any athlete, but especially for a guy like McCluster that lives on making people miss.
I was surprised that Lilja didn’t give it a go last week, so it’s good to see he is not only practicing but with the first-team. Jon Asamoah filled in admirably for him, but he’s not on Lilja’s level yet. With the Chiefs facing another defense that is weak against the run (last week’s 47 yard effort against the Seahawks not withstanding), it will be important to have all hands on deck for the ground assault.
