There's a reason for Gaither's exile, David Mims. The Chiefs had both in camp and the regular season to evaluate Mims & Gaither. They chose David Mims.

Think about how David Mims promotion happened.
1: Gaither brought in to back up Albert - Mims cut and placed on PS
2. Mims technique getting much better and much sooner attracting the attention of other NFL teams.
3. The Chiefs decide on its future tackle position and make the move.
4. Cut Gaither, keep the greatest upside, David Mims
5. David Mims is activated this season for experience and he'll be starting next year in Albert or Richerson's slot.
6. Cornerstone for years to come.
7. David Mims is the real deal bottom line with more upside than Gaither and all of the other camp tackles cut. Go Chiefs
