With one round in the books, the fine folks at Scouts Inc. have released a mock draft draft for Day 2. With so much talent left on the board, there’s no telling which way Scott Pioli will go, but Todd McShay and his staff feel the Chiefs will concentrate on offensive line and defensive tackle.
4 (36) – Rodger Saffold, OT, Indiana
18 (50) – Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama
Saffold would be a good value pick for the Chiefs, someone they could immediately have push Ryan O’Callaghan for the starting RT spot. It’s also even more reason why there was never a chance Kansas City was taking Bryan Bulaga fifth overall. You can always find a right tackle in the second and third rounds, especially this year with such a deep draft class.
I’ve been fought every step of the way with Cody, but I just don’t think he fits. Yes, the Chiefs need to bulk up in the middle. But they also need players that can actually contribute on a regular basis. Cody is huge, but would struggle more than any player did last year when it comes to getting in line with Todd Haley’s conditioning requirements.
Guys like Linval Joseph or Cam Thomas would be worth a shot either in the third round, or later in the second round if the Chiefs trade out of the 36th pick.
