Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski spent the first week of the NFL season being celebrated for a record tying 63-yard field goal that beat the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football. Now as that week comes to an end, comes word that Janikowski has charged with misdemeanor battery and false impresonment.
According to the Contra Costa Times, the incident allegedly occurred in September of 2010. The report says Janikowski used “force and violence” against a female, though there were no details as to why charges were delayed by nearly a year.
The charges carry a maximum of 18 months in jail.
Despite being known for his off-the-field problems coming out of Florida State, Janikowski has actually kept his nose clean since 2002.
You always have to wonder about cases that take this long to come to light and of course everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but the Raiders can never seem to avoid these sort of distractions. Things did seem to be going a little too smoothly for new head coach Hue Jackson, something that clearly won’t be an issue anymore.
