Tamba Hali Stumps For Matt Cassel

Just in case you were feeling too good about the Kansas City Chiefs new head coach and general manager, one of the best pass rushers in the NFL is here to throw some cold water on your celebration.

Tamba Hali took to Twitter Sunday to fire off an unprovoked defense of former starting QB Matt Cassel.

Matt Cassell haven’t had a good quarterback coach since Charlie Weis and Josh McDaniels. we know what he did when that chemistry was there.

I believe in my boy. Model citizen, loves the game of football. Gives back to the community Just like everybody he wants a fair chance.

Not too bad. Understandable he wants to stick up for his friend, even if it’s a little out of the blue. Things took a turn for the worse when Hali continued to try and explain why Cassel should be given another chance in Kansas City.

A line that will block for him relentlessly. When we had Will Shield, Willie Roaf, Brian waters, KC Weigman, TRENT GREEN WAS THE MAN.

Okay, that’s one he’d probably like to have back. Not only did he try to compare the train wreck that has been Cassel to Green, but in the process he called out the current Chiefs offensive line. A line that will only change if Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel is the first pick in April’s draft.

Sticking up for your buddy is one thing, but doing it at the expense of five or six of your teammates isn’t how you want to do it.

As for the most talked about solution at quarterback for the Chiefs?

Alex Smith from the media viewpoint was an average QB. Then Coach Harbaugh took over and we’ve seen what they have done in two years.

No one is going to deny the kind of work coach Harbaugh has done in San Francisco (and before that at Stanford and San Diego), but should Smith’s rehabilitation be reason enough give Cassel another shot in Kansas City?

How many times do we need to see Cassel under center to know that he’s not the answer for the Chiefs? Again, no one is going to knock Hali for wanting to stand up for his friend, but can we not completely ignore how terrible he’s been the last couple of seasons?
