Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Taurus Johnson has a try out with the Detroit Lions today.
Johnson, after playing his college ball at the University of South Florida, signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent. He lasted until the final cuts of training camp.
One of his most memorable moments as a Chiefs came as part of NFL Network’s “Wired” segment.
Entering training camp there were three UDFA I had my eye on: Johnson, Pierre Walters and Jovan Belcher. While Walters and Belcher made the team, Johnson just couldn’t catch on (pun intended) with a team that was — and is — desperate for competent wide receivers.
In order to make the team, Johnson needed to prove he could contribute on special teams. Despite being second in USF in kickoff return yardage, he never established himself as a threat in the return game.
