For the second time in as many months, the Kansas City Chiefs announced that they will be hosting a major concert. This time Taylor Swift will bring her “Speak Now” tour to the New Arrowhead in 2011.
The news follows last month’s Kenny Chesney Goin’ Coastal tour announcement.
Presale offers for the Taylor Swift: Speak Now concert will again be extended to Jackson County residents and Chiefs Season Ticket Holders. Details of all offers, including the general public onsale date, will be announced in January and will be available on kcchiefs.com. The Taylor Swift concert is scheduled for September 24, 2011.
First it was one of the biggest teams in soccer, then one of the most popular country stars and now arguably the biggest star in all of music. When the Chiefs decided they wanted to get back into the non-football events business they certainly haven’t spared any expense.
No matter your feelings about having soccer, concerts or any other events at the New Arrowhead, it’s impossible to deny the positives of bringing that many people to the area for more than just chiefs games.
I would be concerned, however, about holding too many events during the season. There’s no way to know what the staging for the Swift concert will do to the field. If any problems arise due to the Kenny Chesney show on July 30, there will be more than enough time to fix them for the Chiefs, something that can’t be said for sure with this second show.
