The potential replacements for fired Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley are flying fast and furious. Everyone from Jeff Fisher to Kirk Ferentz to Josh McDaniels has been mentioned as potential favorites for the job.
For now, defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel will take the reigns on an interim basis. Adam Teicher of the KC Star was on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City talking about Crennel and thought he was not only perfect now but also should get a long look as the permanent replacement.
“This is the type of guy the Chiefs need,” the Chiefs beat writer told host Danny Parkins.
If Crennel wants the job, it’s not the worst idea.
The Chiefs wouldn’t have to worry about disrupting what, for the most part, has been an improving unit. If they were to hire someone from outside the organization, there’s obviously a chance they wouldn’t even want to run the 3-4, which would push Crennel out the door.
Hiring Crennel allows consistency on defense and would also let Scott Pioli hand pick an outside offensive coordinator (more likely where McDaniels would fit in) to come in and run a unit that will get Jamaal Charles and Tony Moeaki back next season.
