Tony Gonzalez The Biggest Loser

With the Super Bowl just over a week away, it’s once again time to look at the best players from pro sports that have yet to win a championship.  No current Kansas City Chiefs player made the list, but former Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez clocked in at No. 20, right after Michelle Wie and Paula Creamer and a familiar name from the AFC West made the Top 5.

LaDainian Tomlinson: His stature skyrocketed toward Jim Brown-status while racking up amazing stats this past decade as the San Diego Chargers’ running back.  But his playoff failures loom large, magnified by this postseason’s one-and-done exit.

Tony Gonzalez: He established himself as one of the NFL’s best tight ends ever during his Kansas City Chiefs tenure.  He headed this season to the Atlanta Falcons and didn’t make the playoffs.

Three other NFL players and one owner made the list: Donovan McNabb, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss and Dan Snyder.

Obviously there is no science to lists like this, but how do you put two young golfers like Wie and Creamer ahead of a veteran like Gonzalez?  At least Sergio Garcia (No. 14) has been a pro for 10 years, twice the time of his LPGA counterparts.

We all know how amazing Gonzalez was for the Chiefs and the Kansas City community as a whole, yet I found myself completely rooting against the Falcons this year.  A large part of that was so the Chiefs would get a better pick out of April’s NFL Draft.
