The Kansas City Chiefs returned to the practice field this afternoon wearing just helmets and shoulder pads. Filing reports today — as always — are Josh Looney @ KCChiefs.com and Bob Gretz @ BobGretz.com & CBSSports.com.
Sitting out today were Derrick Johnson, Zach Thomas, Jake O’Connell and Kolby Smith.
Demorrio Williams took the majority of reps in Johnson’s spot at inside linebacker.
A large portion of practice was geared toward getting ready for the Seattle Seahawks. It’s the most extensive work they’ve done in the preseason to prepare for an opponent.
During the team blitz period, Brodie Croyle had several nice passes thrown to spots before the break. The throws allowed the receivers to make catches under tight coverage.
In the red zone portion of practice, Dwayne Bowe made a nice catch for a touchdown on a wheel route. The play caught the eye of Haley: “That’s being smart and disciplined. Good job.”
Monty Beisel jumped an underneath route for an interception during the 7-on-7 session.
While kicking an extra point, Ryan Succop’s ball sailed over the net and into the woods.
I’ve assumed (you know what they say when you assume) for a while now that Demorrio Williams would be cut, and he still might, but having him step right in for Derrick Johnson shows the coaches still have him in the mix for one of those last linebacker spots.
You know camp is going well for a kicker when the only news he makes is when he loses a football in the woods. I think it’s safe to say Succop will be receiving his Arrowhead sticker sooner rather than later.
