The Kansas City Chiefs have released their list of 8 inactive players for today’s game against the Texans in Houston and there are a couple surprises.
WR Chris Chambers, S Kendrick Lewis, FB Tim Castille, S Reshard Langford, LB Justin Cole, DE Alex Magee, RT Ryan O’Callaghan and DE Tyson Jackson.
I’m really surprised to see Chambers, Lewis, O’Callaghan and Jackson all out. All had practiced in full and seemed poised to start against the Texans.
Making the call on Chambers with a hand injury he played with last week and O’Callaghan readjusting to the speed of the game would both point to the Chiefs wanting to air the ball out. There has been plenty of discussion about just how much (or how little) Matt Cassel will be able to throw the ball around the field. Replacing Chambers and his injured hand with speedster Jeremy Horne and keeping the cohesion along the offensive line makes me believe we will see the Kansas City offense open up.
Obviously Shaun Smith’s strong play gives Romeo Crennel a little wiggle room. What bothers me is if they knew things would be taken this slowly, why have Jackson practice during the bye week? If you are intent on keeping him on the slow track, keep him on the sidelines for an extra week.
