The Kansas City Chiefs have already taken home two of the Rookie of the Week awards this season and are now looking to do it for the third time. Eric Berry is one of the five nominees from around the league after he had his first career interception and forced a fumble in the Chiefs 42-20 win over the Jaguars.
Berry faces some stiff competition.
David Gettis – Carolina Panthers
Gettis led the Panthers to a 23-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers with eight receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
Dez Bryant – Dallas Cowboys
Bryant accounted for 171 total yards and three touchdowns, including one on a 93-yard punt return and two on fourth-quarter receptions in the Cowboys’ 41-35 loss to the Giants.
Jordan Shipley – Cincinnati Bengals
Shipley had six catches for 131 yards, including one 64-yard touchdown catch, in the Bengals’ 39-32 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Mike Williams – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Williams had five receptions for 82 yards and recovered a fumble that led to a Buccaneers’ field goal in Tampa Bay’s 18-17 win over the St. Louis Rams.
If you were handicapping this race, Berry would at best be third behind Bryant and Williams with both playing a huge part of their team winning.
That’s not taking away anything from Berry’s performance, but his pick came when the game was all but put away and the fumble was recovered by Jacksonville. And then of course there is always the pass interference against Berry.
